Carnival Legend - Western Caribbean

We cruised on the Legend out of Tampa in May 2011.

Overall, the boat was fine.  It's a little outdated, but the food and service were very good.  Carnival allows you to take one bottle of wine per person, which I highly recommend that you take advantage of if you drink wine.

I did a ton of research on cruise critic and trip advisor, and here's what we did:

Cozumel: Took an $8 cab (for 4 people, one way) to The Money Bar.  Ordered some drinks and nachos, grabbed some lounges under an umbrella and snorkeled for free right off their ironshore.  The water was beautiful, although the reef was nothing to write home about.  While we were there, several paid tour excursions dropped their snorkelers off right where we were.  If you need to rent gear, the cost is $14 per person.  DH and I took our own. We had a great time here and spent $35!

Belize: Used CaveTubing.bz, and had a fabulous time with them.  Jenny and Vitalino Junior (son of the owner) were our guides.  The van ride from port to the caves was about an hour, and Jenny told us about Belize the whole way there.  We learned a lot.  From the main park, we hiked about 1.5 miles or so through the forest and caves.  This is not an activity I recommend if you are in poor health or have a leg injury, but truly it was not a bad hike at all.  Totally worth it because the river is so clear, and the caves are amazing.  After we were out of the water, we stopped off for a quick lunch prepared by Vitalinos wife at their little outdoor palapa.  I would recommend cavetubing.BZ again in a heartbeat!  The cavetubing.com guides were really rowdy, and there were a lot of people on one tour.  Cost was $50 per person.

Roatan: By far our favorite port!  We did the Zip N Dip with Pirates of the Caribbean Canopy.  The guides were fun but very professional and safety conscious.  We had never ziplined before but did the Extremely Extreme anyway.  They drive you to the top of the mountain, and you zipline back.  We never once felt unsafe.  After the zipline, we were driven to a resort called Parrot Tree Plantation and spent the next few hours enjoying their beach.  It was gorgeous!  It was a very relaxing afternoon.  Cost was $95 per person.

Grand Cayman: We snorkeled here as well, and had lunch of Guy Harvey's.  The conversion rate makes this the most expensive stop.  We walked off the pier to the right for about 5 minutes and arrived at Eden Rock Dive Shop.  Again, DH and I snorkeled for free and our friends rented their gear at $14 each.  We also rented a locker for $5 that fit all of our stuff.  You can also sign up for a 1 tank guided dive with proof of cert, and that cost is $65 per person.  You don't need to dive to enjoy the reefs - they are beautiful and plentiful right off the shore.  Easy to get to, snorkeling close to the cruise ship (it's literally anchored right were we were snorkeling), and wonderful water.  Highly recommend!

Boston, MA

I have always wanted to visit Boston and Salem, so we FINALLY made it happen this August.  Visiting at the end of August, doing a lot of the tourist-y stuff during the week is definitely the way to go.  The crowds were low Wednesday, Thursday, and most of Friday (the beginning of the Labor Day weekend). Hotel We stayed at the Boston Marriott at Long Wharf .  It’s not a cheap place to stay, but the location is fantastic if you are here to see the historical places in Boston.  It’s across the street from Quincy Market/Faneuil Hall and next to the New England aquarium and harbor cruises.  The Blue Line from the airport drops off at the hotel, as well as all of the tour trolley stops.  Walking into the North End/Little Italy is also very easy. Food I don’t even know where to start here, so I guess I’ll go chronologically.  I knew that I wanted 1) a lobster roll, 2) clam chowder, and 3) cannoli.  Check, check, and check!  Note, for Wednesday - Fri...

Celebrity Solstice - Dawes Glacier, Alaska

If you've ever booked a cruise during the pandemic, you know how frustrating it can be.  In 2019, we booked our Alaska cruise for May 2021. Well, May 2022 was our make-up cruise for the cancelled 2021 sailing.  Better late than never, right? Dawes Glacier - Endicott Arm Pre-cruise First, I’ll hit our pre-cruise stay in Seattle.  We hailed a Lyft from the airport ($50 + tip).  You need to cross the sky bridge and go down one level until you see the green barriers.  The signage was actually great, but several escalators to get there were on the fritz.  Our Lyft dropped us at the Fairfield Inn & Suites near the Space Needle.  The hotel seems newly updated and the front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. For dinner, we took the advice of the front desk staff and visited Thomas Street Warehouse .  The prices are actually really great for downtown, and they have a cool cocktail menu.  In the morning, we grabbed breakfast tacos at Jack’s...

Carnival Breeze - Southern Caribbean

The Breeze ports in Miami and does several different itineries.  We chose an 8-day, which included Curacao, La Romana, Grand Turk, and Aruba. Parking in Miami Premier Cruise Parking ( premiercruisepark@bellsouth.net ), 1415 NE 2nd Ave. Parking Garage $8 per day, including tax.  Free shuttle to port.  The wait for the arrival of the shuttle at the parking garage going to port can be a little long, but it's worth it to us.  We've used this garage twice and will use it again.  I believe that it is better to prepay so you don't have to do it there. The Food The steakhouse is very much the same as any of the other Carnival steakhouses, but still very good. We also ate dinner in Cucina del Capitano - excellent food and service!  Highly recommend!  We also made use of Guy Fieri's Burgers several times - hello yumminess!  Tandoor Indian cuisine (aft pool location) and Blue Iguana burritos were also amazing.  We did not starve on this trip! ...
